Welcome to the Symbian UI Pattern Library.

This contains the index to the pattern library. This page is also a work in progress. Email Scott Weiss to join this group. Working Group members are expected to contribute up to two hours per week building UI patterns.

Everyone is welcome to join our mailing list, too.

Getting started with UI pattern creation and editing

Where we really need help is in translating UI patterns contributed by Sony Ericsson's UIQ into Symbian^3. At the bottom of this page is a list of the pages (patterns) for which we could use some help. We have a number of patterns from the UIQ pattern library that need some reformatting for this wiki--and there are really helpful, clear instructions on how you can help there.

You will need a phone that runs the Symbian UI, or you will need to run the Symbian emulator (which requires a Microsoft Windows computer, or Mac running Windows on Parallels). The following phones are running Symbian UIs that are very similar to Symbian^3:

Once you've contacted Scott, he'll brief you on getting started and give you access to our working documents, which are all in the cloud.

The UI Patterns Working Group is currently meeting every other week via Skype, and communicate regularly via mailing list.
