Proposals pipeline

From Symbian Developer Community

Jump to: navigation, search

This page provides an overview of the council proposals pipeline. It lists the proposals that have been or will be made to one or more councils and provides a summary of the status of each. The proposals listed here relate to major contributions - significant new pieces of functionality proposed for contribution to the platform (more information on this process to come).

This page will be updated regularly as proposals progress through the Councils.

Proposals pipeline overview

This table provides an overview of the current status of the proposal pipeline. Each row contains the name of the proposal - which links to the Wiki page containing the details of the solution proposed - and summarizes the status of the proposal within each of the four Councils.

Making changes to this page

This page is likely to be updated regularly. Council chairs should update the current status of the proposals as things progress. Proposal authors - as well as Council chairs - will need to add new proposals to the above table as these get into the pipeline.

Items on different columns are separated by a ||. Thus the basic structure of a row is as follows:

|-
| proposal || Lead contributor || date || F&RC status || AC status || UIC status || RC status || overall status

The proposal field should be completed with a short but meaningful name for the proposal that links to the wiki page for the proposal (by default we store all proposal pages in a "prop" sub-directory - see the code snippet below for syntax).

The date column should be completed with the date that the line was added to the table.

The status icons should be selected from the table below:

Icon Location Meaning
File:Approved.png Approved
File:Rejected.pngRejected
File:No_review_needed.pngNo review needed
File:Not_yet_submitted.pngNot yet submitted
File:Under_review.pngUnder review

It is useful to append a | link= (no space!) to the icon link to make the icon non-clickable. The follow example (you can copy-paste it) shows the basic syntax for adding a new row where the proposal name is Great New Feature and all the fields are not yet submitted for review:

|-
| Great New Feature || Company name || 22 May 2009
 || link=
 || link=
 || link=
 || link=
 || link=

Creating a proposal

Firstly you should draft a document using the guides and templates below:

Once you have drafted your document(s) you should create a new "proposal description" page and post your docs there. The Skeleton_Proposal_Description_Page helps you create one. Now advertise your proposal in the forums to get some feedback.

Lastly you should add a line to the pipeline table above (or ask a friendly Technology Manager or Council Chair, they'll be happy to help) so that everyone can find your proposal and see its status at a glance.
