Multimedia package split proposal

This change proposal is to the package:
  Layer: OS
  Package name: Multimedia
  Owner: Petteri Kangaslampi

This proposal is to split this package into following 5 packages, based on
technology areas:
- Multimedia (mm, for common multimedia components and frameworks) – current
package
- Multimedia Audio (mmaudio)
- Multimedia Video (mmvideo)
- Multimedia Camera (mmcamera)
- Multimedia Imaging (mmimaging)

All packages would belong in the OS layer and the Multimedia technology domain.

The new package structure is expected to be taken into production use on
Symbian^5 timeframes with the delivery of a new multimedia architecture with
SHAI support. However initial FCL deliveries of this code will start in
H2/2009, so the new packages should be created for development purposes
earlier. This will enable early visibility of the code to the community while
it is still in development.

For information on the Next-Generation Multimedia Architecture (NGMA) project,
see
http://developer.symbian.org/wiki/index.php/Multimedia_Package/NGMA_Introduction.
A Contribution Proposal will be created shortly.

For more details about the proposal see the attached presentation.

Changed into an admin request to do the web-site admin work.
Jezar, do you know who will own these new packages? Is it you?
Please let me know when the new landing page, etc. is needed.

The info is buried in the attached ppt:

Multimedia: Jezar Wakefield <jezar.wakefield@nokia.com>
Multimedia Audio: Kimmo Lapinkari <kimmo.lapinkari@nokia.com>
Multimedia Video: James Nash <james.nash@nokia.com>
Multimedia Camera: Tero Honkanen <tero.t.honkanen@nokia.com>
Multimedia Imaging: Pranav Mishra <pranav.mishra@nokia.com>

Thanks! I missed the PPT

After having talked to Jezar, the agreement on this one was for me to wait
until Jezar lets me know all the code is ready.
Comment 12 larsk 2009-12-16 10:36:18 GMT
Jezar,
is there any progress on this one? I was asked by Kimmo when this will be
happening?

Comment 13 martinw 2009-12-16 10:41:55 GMT
The latest I know is that Nokia plan to make the package structure change when
they start making NGMA deliveries - so S^5 (they plan to make some FCL drops in
S^4, so I'm not sure how they plan to manage this aspect).

Jezar has been off ill for quite some time, so he won't be replying in the
immediate future. However, if this causes you problems I can speak with other
members of his team in London.
Comment 14 larsk 2009-12-16 10:49:31 GMT
OK, that explains why Jezar has not been responding. Maybe there is a case for
one of the package owners in waiting to share Jezar's load while he is ill.
Comment 15 martinw 2009-12-16 10:50:45 GMT
Largely James Nash has been running point on this
Comment 16 larsk 2010-02-10 13:51:33 GMT
Updated the title such that I won't fall over this every week. See comment #13

Hi Lars,

Thanks for doing that. Mercurial (and the commit mailing list), Bugzilla and
Opengrok have all been set-up for the below. Just waiting to be informed if mm
will still be used for S^3 deliveries or whether we can make that repo read
only.

The new POs should also be aware of

1. the existing bugs raised against the old mm package which may need to be
rassigned to the new packages:

http://developer.symbian.org/bugs/buglist.cgi?product=mm

2. The new packages in bugzilla were set-up with just a default component
unspecified

Regards,

Tahir

I have done the following for juan.rubio@nokia.com, james.nash@nokia.com,
pranav.mishra@nokia.com, kimmo.lapinkari@nokia.com, tero.t.honkanen@nokia.com
* All are now in the committer groups (if they have not been already)
* I added all future package owners to the package owner mailing lists and mm
techdomain list (if they have not been there already)
Comment 20 larsk 2010-06-25 14:29:29 BST
Tero, Kimmo, Pranav,

I created the following landing pages

1) Package: mmcamera, tero.t.honkanen@nokia.com
    • You can edit by going to
http://developer.symbian.org/symfadmin/packages/288/edit.html
    • And view by going to
http://developer.symbian.org/main/source/packages/package/index.php?pk=288

2) Package: mmaudio, kimmo.lapinkari@nokia .com
    • You can edit by going to
http://developer.symbian.org/symfadmin/packages/289/edit.html
    • And view by going to
http://developer.symbian.org/main/source/packages/package/index.php?pk=289

3) Package: mmimaging, pranav.mishra@nokia.com
    • You can edit by going to
http://developer.symbian.org/symfadmin/packages/290/edit.html
    • And view by going to
http://developer.symbian.org/main/source/packages/package/index.php?pk=290

    • I filled out with the info I had.
    • They key missing items are the Wiki & Roadmap links.
    • Note that the Roadmap link, should go to the backlog on the Wiki, which
I have not filled out. Let me know if you need help creating these (see
http://developer.symbian.org/wiki/index.php/Managing_my_Wiki_Pages)
    • Instructions on how to change the landing pages are here:
http://developer.symbian.org/wiki/index.php/Managing_my_Landing_Page
    • Note that the page is not listed until you enable it (radio button at
the top), which gives you a chance to review and fill everything out before it
goes live

Welcome as package owners. You should be set up now.
* Can you please follow the steps in
http://developer.symbian.org/wiki/index.php/Taking_ownership_of_my_package
* You should also bookmark:
http://developer.symbian.org/wiki/index.php/Category:Package_Owners - it
contains information and news related to package ownership
** In particular you may want to read documents in "Essential Reading"
** There is also a good slideset on building a community around your package:
see
http://developer.symbian.org/wiki/index.php/Package_Owner_Workshops/LondonMay10

I usually announce changes to package ownership on the package owner mailing
list at the end of the month. Let me know if you need any help. I am happy to
set up an hour conference call, skype meeting, face-2-face, etc. to walk you
through everything you need to know.

Also Martin Webb (CC'ed on the bug is your technology manager). It may be a
good idea to have an introductory chat with Martin.

Best Regards
Lars

Tahir,
have the bugtracker instances for mmcamera & mmaudio & mmimaging been created?
When I follow the bug links for the newly created landing pages, I get a
"Sorry, either the product mmimaging does not exist or you aren't authorized
to enter a bug into it. " error. It looks as if the respective queues have not
been created.
Cheers
Lars

Oops my bad...I was a little too agressive with the access controls. Should all
