[SSWG] Opening Up the SSWG Mailing List

List members will have noticed that this working group has been slow
getting going - sorry about that!

Having discussed this with various people (SF staff, members and
non-members) over the past few weeks, particularly at SEE, I have
concluded that I made several mistakes in setting up the list:

- restricting the visibility of messages to SSWG members has prevented
potential SSWG members from seeing what (if anything!) is going on,
and thus being motivated to join in.

- asking for a minimum level of commitment from SSWG members has
prevented some experienced and clever, but busy, people from joining
in.

- restricting SSWG members to representatives of SF member companies
has prevented some valuable participation from interested individuals
in other organisations.

I'm now rectifying those mistakes and, I hope, being more true to
Symbian's principle of open governance:

- anyone (SF member or not) can now read the mailing list archives and
all messages sent to the SSWG list (including this one) will appear
there; please be aware of this, and don't discuss anything that's
clearly confidential (such as details of unpatched vulnerabilities) on
the list.

- there will be no minimum level of commitment to work items; all I
ask is that if you join the mailing list, please do try to participate
at some level, even if that's just the occasional response to an
email. If you're just curious, then I suggest watching the archive (
http://lists.symbian.org/pipermail/sswg/ ).

- anyone (SF member or not) may now join the list; but please be aware
of two things: your membership of the list will be visible to the
world ( http://lists.symbian.org/mailman/roster/sswg ) and by joining
the list you agree that any messages you send to the list will be
subject to the SF terms and conditions (
http://lists.symbian.org/main/legal/website_t_and_c.php ,
"Submissions" section in particular ).

Thanks for your attention, and here's looking forward to productive times ahead!

- Craig.
