The Web Extensions package hosts web technologies that complement the Symbian Web Runtime with additional libraries.
These extensions are not part of the Symbian Foundation compatibility promise and are not built-in the Symbian PDK by default: however, developers can (and are encouraged to) download the code, build it into the PDK and make use of these APIs to write cross-platform web applications, using Symbian development tools.
The webextensions package currently hosts the PhoneGap libraries, contributed by Nitobi. PhoneGap is an open source development framework for building cross-platform mobile apps which run on Symbian as well as iPhone/iTouch, iPad, Google Android, Palm, and Blackberry.
At the time of writing, PhoneGap supports WRT 1.1 and implements the following APIs:
