The Symbian Foundation was established by industry-leading mobile device manufacturers. It provides, manages and unifies the Symbian platform for download and development. The platform code is now available to all for free, under the Eclipse Public License, meaning that any individual or organization can take, use and modify the code for any purpose, whether that be for a mobile device or for something else entirely.
The availability of the Symbian platform source, four months ahead of schedule, will foster innovation, increase code and feature contribution, and encourage community engagement. Anyone can now influence the future of mobile.
An explanation of the roles of the four councils, and a repository of their current plans and documentation.
We have completed the transition of the Symbian platform code to open source. It is now available under the Eclipse Public License and can be downloaded for free.
Being open requires the enthusiasm and graft of many people. We need your help. You don't need to spend lots of time to make a big difference!
